Mayor Colin Basran

City of Kelowna

Born in 1977 at Kelowna General Hospital, Mayor Colin Basran was raised in Kelowna, studied English and History at Okanagan College, and Broadcast Journalism at BCIT. He worked as a television news reporter with Kelowna’s CHBC Television from 2002 to 2007 and as a realtor from 2009 to 2014 in Kelowna.

In addition to his community involvement with the Chamber of Commerce and other local organizations and charities, Colin ran for Council and was elected as a City Councillor, serving from 2011 to 2014. He was elected as Kelowna’s youngest Mayor in December 2014 for a four-year term.

He and his wife Leanne have two beautiful young children, Nyah and Keenan. The Basran family was one of the first East Indian families in the Okanagan and Mayor Basran is very proud of his family’s history spanning three generations in Kelowna.
