Sustainability
Tourism is a powerful engine for economic, cultural, and social well-being and a catalyst for addressing major issues and opportunities such as climate change, sustainability, reconciliation, and workforce, among other priorities.
Working with ConnectSeven Group, TIABC will continue to weave sustainability into all aspects of the planning for the
2026 BC Tourism Industry Conference.
Guided by an action plan that is aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), TIABC and ConnectSeven Group are focused on reducing the conference’s environmental footprint while enhancing its community, local economic and cultural benefits.
Sustainability is an ongoing journey, and we’re committed to learning how we can make an even greater positive impact. Target metrics and carbon emission measurement report will help us track success and inform areas of improvement for future conferences.

In this report, you’ll find highlights of our work to:
Minimize the environmental footprint of the conference by prioritizing low-waste and circular practices, from recyclable limestone name badges and reusable lanyards to plant-forward menus and electric buses for event transport.
Engage and educate attendees and suppliers on sustainable best practices, including pre-event communications, on-site signage, food and beverage activations, and conference sessions dedicated to sustainable or regenerative tourism.
Support and give back to our host destination communities through partnerships with local and Indigenous-owned businesses, food recovery programs, and a $5,000 donation to the Environmental Youth Alliance.
Measure and learn from our impact with detailed carbon tracking through TRACE by isla, achieving close to a 25% reduction in emissions from 2024 and identifying opportunities for continued improvement.
Together, we’re advancing sustainability in BC’s tourism industry - one action, one event, and one partnership at a time.
